IP access management

IP Access Management in MX18 allows you to restrict access to your account (both Web App and APIs) to a defined list of trusted IP addresses. It’s a critical security feature for teams handling sensitive data and large-scale email operations.

What is IP access management?

IP access management lets you define which IP addresses are allowed to:

  • Log in to your MX18 Web Dashboard
  • Make requests to MX18 APIs

Once activated, only the declared IPs will be permitted access. All other login attempts or API calls — even with valid credentials — will be blocked.

This helps prevent:

  • Unauthorized API use
  • Login attempts from unknown locations
  • Credential theft misuse

How to enable it

To set up IP whitelisting:

  1. Log in to app.mx18.com
  2. Navigate to Settings > IP Access Management
  3. Add your trusted IP addresses or IP ranges (CIDR notation supported)
  4. Click Save & Activate

Ensure you’ve included your current IP, or you may lose access immediately after activation.

Best practices

  • Restrict access to static IPs of your team or infrastructure
  • Use CIDR blocks carefully (192.168.1.0/24) only when needed
  • Periodically audit and clean unused IPs
  • Avoid whitelisting public or dynamic IPs

Enforcing IP restrictions adds an extra layer of protection beyond API keys and passwords.

Impact of enabling IP access

Once enabled:

  • All API requests must originate from a whitelisted IP
  • Dashboard logins from non-whitelisted IPs will be blocked
  • Failed attempts will not trigger brute-force alerts, but will silently fail

You can always edit or temporarily disable IP restrictions via the dashboard if locked out.
